There is no bond like a fur mama and her fur baby. We did a fun winter session at Kate O. Sessions Park with this duo and the detail Angela put into preparing the look she wanted for this session was special for her and her pup, Hazel. What we played with was the coziness of the blanket, the nature of the park, and the delicate white lace in Angelas dress and the white fleece on Hazels little sweater. It turned out very much like a fairytale scene once I toned down the green around them and gave the overall look a soft and dreamy, desaturated look.
We haven’t photographed dogs or pets in general much, so what worked was bringing Hazels favorite squeaky toys and her favorite ball. I had to squeak while shooting most of the time, but luckily her toys are small and easy to hold while using my other hand to shoot. I also noticed that if I made some high pitched, funny sounds she always looks at me and gives me a tilt of her head. What I’ve learned with this tactic is just to have patience and if the pet is too distracted, just have their fur mama hold her and cuddle her for some cute, natural photos. Another tip for great pup photos, is to get them excited! Angela walked her around and played with her for a good 5-10 minutes before so we could get some of Hazels tongue out, which makes for great photos.
Thanks guys for a great + fun session!
